Accountant

The role

Start date: Immediately
Location: Remotely

Responsibilities include:

1. Processing Transactions:

  • Record, verify, and process invoices, payments, and expenses.

  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of financial data into accounting software or ledgers.

2. Accounts Payable/Receivable:

  • Monitor and manage accounts payable (vendor invoices) and accounts receivable (customer payments).

  • Reconcile discrepancies in financial records and resolve payment or billing issues.

3. Reconciliation:

  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, MPESA statements and other financial documents.

  • Maintain and balance general ledger accounts.

4. Administrative Support:

  • Organize and maintain financial files and records.

  • Prepare and distribute financial reports as needed.

5. Compliance and Accuracy:

  • Process statutories as required e.g. payroll, VAT, Instalment tax etc.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

  • Perform routine audits of financial data to identify and correct errors.

6. Assistance in Reporting:

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

  • Support the core team in preparing tax documents or reports for regulatory purposes.


What we’re looking for


Core requirements:

  • Integrity

  • Knowledge of financial regulations and procedures in Kenya

  • A Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Completion of a professional accounting course, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • At least 2 years prior experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly

  • Prior experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role

Bonus attributes:

  • Experience in remote working

  • Experience working with Wave or similar online software

  • Experience with the Profit First system

  • Experience in the creative industries
